What's yer name? |
Judith May
Rosenburg. May is a kind of silly name, isn't it? *her blue-gren
eyes sparkle in amusement* |
Dat what people call ya, or d'ya got a
nickname? |
Most people here at the Rose call my Judy or
Judith. Otherwise, it's Miss Rosenburg. Yes, I'm still a
"miss," but unlike some people I could name I don't
insist you call me that. Judy or Judith is fine. |
Whaddaya look like? |
The Queen of
England. *laughs good-naturedly* Actually, we look nothing alike,
she and I, except perhaps by being of the same sex. I'd pity her
if she had hair this color. *brushes back wisps of coppery brown
hair that have come loose from her coronet braids* I've been told
I'm pretty, but pretty's not enough if you want a career on the
stage. Fortuneately, I don't. |
How old are ya? |
Twenty-two.
*smiles, which lights up her face* I sometimes wonder if it's a
requirement here. It seems to be the average age. And don't get
any ideas we're all to young to be doing this. The Rose happens
to be a very successful theater. |
What kind of work d'ya do? Actor,
stagehand, what? |
I work in the wardrobe department,
assistant costume mistress. It takes more than just one person,
you know, to clothe an entire acting company, although Dinah does
a fine job. I have no problem being her assistant. As Grandmother
says, "Only one person can win a race." She manages,
delegates, and keeps us organized, and I have the stubborness to
deal with certain of the actresses. |
Got any experience at dat? An' how'd ya
end up heah, anyway?
| Of course I have experience. I
first started working here... a year and a half ago, is it now?
It was only supposed to be temporary, while Mary Walters
recovered from child birth, but she never came back to work so
they kept me on. Eventually they made me assistant costume
mistress and here I am. There's not much else to tell. |
How 'bout tellin' us a little 'bout
yerself? Ya know, what kind of personality ya got? |
I
like to think I'm a very nice person, but most people think that
of themselves, don't they? I do lose my temper now and then, when
certain people "forget" to show up for fittings.
*narrows her eyes briefly* At those times I think I scare Dinah.
Poor thing, she needs to stand up for herself more often. But you
asked about me, didn't you? *looks thoughtful for a moment, head
tilted* I try to stand up for the others here. Mama always said I
picked the underdogs. And I guess I'm a bit of a romantic,
although I'm not seeing anyone. It probably comes from working in
a theater. I'm usually happy, too. *Judith, every bit as
kind-hearted as she says, has a wry sense of humor that helps her
remain calm and capable when things backstage get out of sorts.* |
Any special talents? |
Besides sewing? I can sing well enough, I suppose. Ragtime and
Riggin would
tell you it's cooking. *laugh* If there's a plate of cookies
out and those
two are nearby, I'd suggest not trying one. You might lose
a hand! *after a
moment's reflection, rather off-hand* Oh, Lord Thomason and
I often chat.
He's really an interesting individual. But I don't know if you'd
consider
that a talent or not. I don't know if you'd consider being able
to quote
proverbs and maxims a talent, either. |
