James ""Ropes"" McKay
What's yer name? *the young man sitting at the desk looks up at you from a stack of paperwork* James McKay.
Dat what people call ya, or d'ya got a nickname? *smiles* Well, most of the stage crew still calls me Ropes. *sighs* But since I took -this- crazy job, I'm usually just James or Mr. McKay.
Whaddaya look like? *glares at you slightly with dark blue eyes* I don' have time for crazy questions, ok? *goes back to scribbling on the paper. Runs his fingers exasperatedly through blond hair that's just a little longer than is considered fashionable. Mutters something about actresses and their stupid contracts. If he were standing, you'd be able to see that he's around 6 feet tall, with the muscle that goes with a lifetime of heavy work as a stage hand*
How old are ya? *looks back up at you and grins* Twenty-two. An' yeah, I've already heard about how me an' Jak' re too young to be runnin' this place, an' I don' particularly care to hear it again. We both been here fer-frickin'-ever...there isn't much we don' know about theater.
What kind of work d'ya do? Actor, stagehand, what? *smiles* I'm the manager of The Rose. *chuckles* 'course, I'd say babysitter'd be a more accurate title some o' the time. *smiles good naturedly* I try to keep everythin' runnin' smoothly. *pauses to think a little* Um...the perks o' the job're gettin' to do castin' , direct a little, run things my own way, *half-smiles* an' actually makin' decent money. The down side is that I gotta keep ev'rybody happy enough to not quit, *sighs* which gets pretty hard considerin' -some- of the people that work 'round here. An' I work too much to see my fiancee or my friends a whole lot. *grins* I'd better stop b'fore I start ta sound whiny.
How'd ya end up heah, anyway?*smiles* Been workin' here ever since I was old enough ta work. I grew up at The Rose. My dad was the stage manager; *the smile fades* he died in a fall from the grid when I was fourteen. *pauses and struggles a bit to get the smile back* But dat was a long time ago. *the smile returns* My mother's still an actress here--Angelique McKay. Anyway...started out workin' for the stage crew when I was still a kid, an' got the stage manager job when I was twenty. *shrugs and smiles* Then, when our old manager went crazy an' moved to Philadelphia, Carraway gave me this job. *grins ruefully* An' sometimes I wonder what the hell I was thinkin' when I said yes!
How 'bout tellin' us a little 'bout yerself? Ya know, what kind of personality ya got? *smiles* Depends on who ya ask. Jen'd say I'm a real sweet, laid-back kind of guy, an' that I work too hard. The stage crew'd tell ya I'm great at the pub an' Satan backstage. *grins and shrugs* I'd say the truth is somewhere between 'em.
Any special talents? *shrugs* Well, I play bodhran. Fiddler MacDonald an' Spirit Graham an' I play at Cheap Shot O'Shea's ev'ry now an' then, when we're between shows here.
